How the lessons work

Interactive audio lessons

The backbone of each level is a series of interactive, podcast-style audio lessons built around conversations. Rocket's site cites a learner who spends about 20–30 minutes per audio lesson plus 15–20 minutes of practice; some independent reviewers say a lesson can take closer to an hour with practice included.

Language and culture lessons

Language lessons cover grammar and vocabulary. Culture lessons cover customs in Latin America. Independent reviewers note that most instruction is in English.

Speaking and review tools

Devices

It works in a web browser and in iOS and Android apps. In the apps you can download audio lessons for offline listening. On a computer, the only way to save lessons is printing them to PDF.

Certificate

Rocket Languages has offered its own Certificate of Achievement after a level's module tests and final test. It isn't an accredited credential. Check current details with Rocket Languages if it matters to you.

Pros & cons

Pros

  • A structured path across three levels, with 382 hours of lesson time for all three (Rocket's figure).
  • Speaking practice built in: voice recognition, practice conversations and role-play.
  • Audio lessons you can download in the app for commutes and chores.
  • Culture lessons alongside the language lessons.
  • One-time purchase with lifetime access, including future course updates.
  • Free trial with no card, plus a 60-day money-back guarantee (see vendor terms).

Cons

  • Latin American Spanish only, with no Spain (Castilian) option.
  • Not an accredited certificate: the certificate is Rocket's own.
  • Self-study requires discipline. There's no teacher keeping you on schedule.
  • Higher upfront cost than a subscription if you only plan to study for a few months.
  • Lessons are long compared with app exercises, and independent reviewers say they can feel repetitive or memorization-heavy.
  • Instruction is mostly in English, with few visuals and limited practice writing complex text (per independent reviews).

Who it's for, and who it isn't

Likely a good fit if you…

  • want a structured, level-by-level course rather than random exercises
  • learn well by listening and speaking out loud, including on the go
  • want to practice speaking privately before real conversations
  • prefer paying once over an ongoing subscription
  • are learning for Mexico, Central or South America, or Spanish speakers from those regions

Probably not the right fit if you…

  • need Spain (Castilian) Spanish specifically
  • need an accredited certificate
  • only have a few minutes a day. A free app may suit you better to start
  • want live conversation and feedback from a person. A tutor may suit you better
  • only want a short-term, low-cost option or several languages in one plan
